Don’t You Love the Rain?

Last night I saw a gorgeous sky as I walked out to my book shed to pull books for a customer order.  There was a distinct chill in the air in contrast to the the warmer morning. By late afternoon when I went out, you could almost smell the rain in the air. When I looked at the forecast on Thursday when I was in Paso Robles, no rain appeared likely for at least five days, and since the lawn was browning up again, I turned the automatic sprinklers back on. I’m sure that’s why it rained last night for most of the night. It’s just past noon as I write this, and the sky here is still gray, but the flowers and trees are happy, and so I’m I. As I wrote that, the rain returned. Our thirsty ground needs it. I have written about the Blessings of Rain elsewhere, so I won’t repeat it here. I would urge you, though, if you have time to go and read it, since it has my favorite music videos on rain incorporated into it. It’s my personal celebration of rain.

Rain is a gift of God who promised that if we

…love the Lord your God, and …serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, he will give the rain for your land in its season…that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil. And he will give grass in your fields for your cattle and you shall eat and be full. Deuteronomy 11: 12-15
